A weathered, twisted piece of deadwood at the bank of a calm lake. Photo taken at the Seagull Shoal nature reserve in Gdańsk, Poland.
This piece of deadwood was bound to be a great shot material, even though the dull weather conditions made the shot tricky. I photographed the deadwood from several angles, using two focal lengths, and decided this was the best one. The left side extends towards the camera, providing a leading line. The right end curves back over itself, and this particular frame manages to show it without the top of the curve overlapping the bottom. I had a similar shot in landscape orientation, but decided this one was more balanced, with the opposite shore at the top 1/3 balancing out the deadwood.
