Rectangular hay bales on a freshly reaped field of what I presume was mustard, at sunrise. Photo taken somewhere in Gmina Pruszcz Gdański, Poland.
I woke up at 5 AM to get to this location on time. I got there before sunrise and wandered around the freshly reaped field for a while before finding a few promising compositions. This particular shot was on the underexposed side, but that allowed me to get a very detailed sky. The original composition was in landscape orientation, but I found the sides too featureless to bring anything meaningful to the table. A vertical 4:3 crop worked fine, but I decided to go with a square crop in the end as a compromise between including too much negative space and providing too little context.
I was surprised to see some sunstars, but no ghosting or flaring of any kind.
As for the edits, the image was originally very saturated. I desaturated the greens, but left the rest as is. I reduced the exposure of the topmost part of the sky and did some selective dodging and burning to accentuate the streaks of cut mustard stems and the illuminated top parts of the bales. Nothing too crazy.
